Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Georgia has noted the US’s announcement to impose so-called "reciprocal tariffs" on all trading partners. This gravely violates WTO rules, and undermines the rules-based multilateral trading system. China firmly opposes this move and will take resolute countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. This approach disregards the carefully negotiated balance of interests achieved through years of multilateral trade negotiations and the fact that the US has long benefited substantially from international trade, constituting a typical case of unilateral bullying. Trade and tariff wars have no winners, and protectionism leads nowhere. Under the current circumstances, the international community should work more closely to reject the US’s unilateral, protectionist and trade bullying practices and keep the global trading system stable. |
